The popular free event is part of Salford’s annual Pride celebrations and was initially started in 2011 by Salix Homes working in partnership with our Customer LGBT focus group. What began started as an actual picnic has grown year on year to become a highlight of the LGBT calendar, with thousands of visitors from all over the North West who come to enjoy the wide range of activities on offer.
The Picnic is organised by a team made up of volunteers from the LGBT community in Salford. One of the aims of the group is to help ensure the various neighbourhoods in Salford are a safe and friendly place to live, work and enjoy social activities by building community cohesion.
Amongst the variety of family-friendly activities on offer throughout the day, this year’s event saw visitors treated to a range of popular musical acts performing on the main stage, headlined by a fantastic concert from Union J, while the crowd also enjoyed performances from The Cheeky Girls and X-Factor finalists Sami Brookes and Amrick Channa.
We took along our brand new XL Displays pull up banners and set up alongside the Salix Homes stand- thankfully in the shade! Throughout the day we saw a steady stream of rainbow-clad visitors, interested in finding our more about Salix Living and taking away the variety of brochures, flyers and goodies we had on offer. It proved to be a great afternoon, meeting hundreds of people from our local communities, who help to to make Salford such a great place to live and work.
Our Marketing coordinator Nathan Bullough manned our stand at the event. He said: “We had a brilliant afternoon at The Pink Picnic, meeting people from all over the city and showing what Salix Living can do for them and the range of services we have to offer. The weather was fantastic all day which led to thousands of people coming down to the park to enjoy themselves.”
Nathan continued: “The event was a big success for us, with enquiries from several Salford-based landlords with properties to let and plenty of people who are looking to rent a home in the area. We also saw a lot of interest in Poets, our upcoming new build development in Swinton. We’re already looking forward to next year’s event!”
