The first Salix Living Landlord Forum was held at our head office, Diamond House on the evening of Thursday 19th July. It is always a risk that such an event turns out to be a flop, either because no-one turns up or because the content of the presentations holds no value for the audience.
Our speakers were all experts in their field and covered topics ranging from Universal Credit, Salford Council’s empty homes fund for private landlords looking to bring an empty property back into use, to changes in the regulations for HMOs and the Council’s rental bond scheme.
It is obvious that Universal Credit holds a lot of fears for small private landlords and it was great to see how our speakers from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP )recognised this and how much work was already being done by the DWP to support private landlords through this change.
An important part of any forum such as this is the opportunity it gives for the speakers to receive feedback from users who had actually used the service being presented on. This allows for a genuine debate and helps identify any weaknesses in the system to be tightened up.
Overall, last night I think we got it right. I have received lots of positive feedback about the event and it appears people got a lot out of it. We had 27 locally based landlords attend and the feedback I received is supported by the review scores given where the content for the presentations received an average score of 4.5 out of 5 and the forum overall received an average score of 4.7 out of 5.
I’d like to personally thank each and every one of our excellent speakers for taking the time to come and present at our event. Their help and knowledge was very much appreciated and from speaking to attendees after the forum, it was of great interest and benefit to everybody in the room.
Considering this was our first landlord forum then I believe it is a great start and something we intend to build on over the next 12 months. Since the event, we have already received 2 enquiries from new landlords interested in using our services, and we’re already thinking of ideas, speakers and topics to cover for the next Salix Living Landlord Forum.
